It’s All About Love: The Sedona MENding Project Brings Men and Women Together In Common Cause.

From our press release for our next show…MENding Group

A special performance of The Sedona MENding Project is coming to the Creative Life Center in Sedona on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7 pm.  A portion of the shows proceeds will benefit a local women’s shelter and is part of Domestic Violence Awareness month. Tickets are $15.

Inspired by The Vagina Monologues, The MENding Project is a smart and passionate inquiry into sex and gender, and violence and healing from different perspectives. Using sketch comedy, poetry, dance and song, the show is a love letter to anyone who has ever been wounded or has wounded another.

“Our show evolved,” said Dujardin, the MENding’s Creative Director. “Originally, it was just six men doing monologues on themes raised in The Vagina Monologues. And it was wildly successful. But when we opened it up to female performers as an experiment, a whole new show exploded forth.”

If you’re a fan of The Vagina Monologues, you will not be disappointed with The MENding Project. One might think that a show about sex, violence and healing could turn into something that was heavy-handed, preachy or downright depressing. Yet, the MENding has executed a balanced work—with an appropriate mix of dark, light and comedic pieces —that are stage worthy all by themselves. For a sneak peek, check out www.TheMENding.org for show clips.

The show was first performed in Sedona, AZ. three years ago, and has since toured colleges and communities around the United States to rave reviews. The script of the original show been produced in several colleges and communities around the country.

“When people ask us, “what’s your show about?” I have a hard time telling them,” said Brad Luky, the MENding’s co-director and producer. “It’s about healing. It’s about laughter. It’s about finding the gift in the pain. It’s about great storytelling and music. Ultimately, it about seeing that the scars you carry actually makes you more human—if you let them.”

“There is some amazing work in this show,” said Tom Puetz, MENding’s head writer and co-producer. “Some humorous, some provocative, some quite deep—all based on personal experiences and personal truth around relationships and issues facing men and women. I think we’re saying something that no one has said before.”

Cast members include Derek Dujardin, Brad Luky, Tom Puetz, Dev Galloway, Karen Kiefer, Bonnie Green, Paul Lawerence Curtis, Shaeri Richards, Laura Cooper, Lori Shupp, Michael Leibowitz, and Pash Galbavy.

Directed and produced by Derek Dujardin, Brad Luky and Tom Puetz
